Absolute number of cells (mean number × 105 ± SEM) for the 3 populations defined by the expression of 2 hematopoietic markers: CD45 and TER119 on Pitx2+/+, Pitx2+/-, and Pitx2-/- fetal liver cells. CD45 is expressed on all hematopoietic cells except erythroblasts that express the TER119 surface marker. *Statistically significant differences compared with the Pitx2+/+ control (P = .01, Student t test).
