MM PBMC were stained using two different types of two-color staining, with anti–CD34-PE (direct conjugate) and CD19-FITC (direct conjugate) or anti-CD34/goat anti-mouse Ig-PE (indirect) and CD19-FITC. The results from these two methods were not significantly different. Samples were run on either the FACSort or ELITE, with comparable results from either instrument. Files were gated for CD34+ cells and the expression of CD19 plotted as a histogram in comparison with an identically gated isotype matched control sample. Low scatter (small cells) is defined as forward and side scatter below channel 400. High scatter (large PBMC) is defined as scatter above channel 400. Mean value is ±SE.
