Resting membrane potential (Em) was measured in regular MBS (NaCl/KCl) or in NMDGCl, KCl, or gluconate containing MBS (“Electrophysiological measurements”). Data are means (± SEM) of n experiments (number in parentheses), each made with 5 oocytes. Em in NaCl/KCl-containing medium was compared with Em in high K+- or NMDG-containing media for each column.
