CB17 (scid/scid) mice were transplanted with human fetal BM fragments and injected with 3 × 104 sorted progenitor cells derived from adult BM of the above phenotype. Each population was HLA mismatched to the fetal BM grafts. At 8 weeks posttransplantation, the mice were killed and the BM fragments removed and processed as described in Materials and Methods. FACS analysis of the grafts is described in Fig 1. In comparing the engraftment potential of the CD34+CD38c-mpl+ and CD34+CD38c-mpl cell populations, statistical significance of the number of mice engrafted was determined by an unpaired two-tailed Student's t-test with a 95% confidence interval.
