Table 1.

Sensitivity of platelet aggregation to SDF-1α, MDC, and TARC under different shear conditions

SDF-1αMDCTARC
 (EC50; nmol/L chemokine)
High shear (n = 3) 28.1 ± 4.1 8.5 ± 2.1 7.9 ± 0.1
Low shear (n = 4) 29.7 ± 7.9 6.7 ± 1.3 7.8 ± 1.2
SDF-1αMDCTARC
 (EC50; nmol/L chemokine)
High shear (n = 3) 28.1 ± 4.1 8.5 ± 2.1 7.9 ± 0.1
Low shear (n = 4) 29.7 ± 7.9 6.7 ± 1.3 7.8 ± 1.2

Washed platelets were aggregated under either high-shear conditions in the quenched-flow system or under low-shear in stirred tubes as described in “Materials and methods.” Low levels of ADP (0.05 to 0.25 μM) were used to provide minimal aggregation in the absence of chemokine. EC50 values are means ± SE for different platelet preparations (n) and were calculated as given in “Materials and methods.”
