Polymorphonuclear neutrophils (PMN; 107/mL) were preincubated with or without cycloheximide (CHX) and were then stimulated for 24 hours at 37°C with various agents at the concentrations indicated; unstimulated control PMNs were incubated in medium alone. Hepatocyte growth factor (HGF) was assayed in the cell-free supernatants. Results are expressed as the mean ± SEM of HGF levels (pg/mL) in 3 experiments. LPS indicates lipopolysaccharide; PMA, phorbol myristate acetate; fMLP, N-formylmethionyl-leucyl-phenylalanine; IL-1, interleukin 1.
