Causes of 46 deaths after transplantation in 133 patients

Grade II or higher acute GvHD no chronic GvHD (12)	Acute GvHD with or without infection in 11 of 12 patients.
No or grade I acute GvHD and chronic GvHD (7)	Extensive chronic GvHD in 6 of 7 patients. Infection was the primary cause of death in 6 patients and cancer in 1 patient.
Both grade II or higher acute GvHD and chronic GvHD (12)	Extensive chronic GvHD in 9 of 12 patients. Infection was the primary cause of death in 9 patients and cancer in 1 patient.
No or grade I acute GvHD and no chronic GvHD (15)	11 of 15 deaths occurred before a year, including infection in 6 patients; 4 deaths occurred more than a year after transplantation, 3 of 4 related to late infections.
