Rate of myocardial infarctions almost doubled in the restrictive arm of the FOCUS trial. In the FOCUS trial,²⁶ the number of new onset MIs doubled in participants with stable CVD having hip surgery and receiving a restrictive instead of a liberal transfusion strategy.
