BMI1 overexpression results in enhanced stem-cell frequencies and elevates their self-renewal potential. Cord blood CD34+ cells transduced with MiGR1 (open symbols) and BMI1 (closed symbols) were sorted in limiting dilutions and used to enumerate LTC-IC frequencies (A) or were injected into sublethally irradiated NOD-SCID mice (n = 5 per group; B). Human CD45+ chimerism levels were determined 6 weeks after transplantation in the BM of the transplanted mice (B).
