PlGF, VEGF/PlGF heterodimer, VEGF (100 ng), or phosphate-buffered saline (PBS) were injected intradermally into the skin of wild-type mice after intravenous injection of Evans blue. (A) PlGF induced vascular hyperpermeability, as demonstrated by extravasation of Evans blue. The effect of VEGF and VEGF/PlGF on vascular leakage was even more pronounced. (B) To quantify the plasma extravasation, Evans blue was extracted from the skin. PlGF injection increased the plasma extravasation by more than 2-fold, whereas a more than 4-fold increase was observed with VEGF and VEGF/PlGF heterodimer when compared with PBS controls.
