Effect of high extracellular [K+] on collagen-plus-thrombin–induced platelet procoagulant response. Platelets at 107 mL–1 were activated with collagen (10 μg/mL) plus thrombin (4 nM) for 10 minutes in HEPES, HEPES/choline, or HEPES/KCl, and the procoagulant response was measured as the binding of FITC-conjugated annexin A5. Data are expressed as a percentage of the response obtained in HEPES. We emphasize that the 100% value in HEPES corresponds to approximately 20% to 25% of the total cell population that becomes positive for annexin binding, depending on the donor.
