Effect of HCMV on the generation of mature monocytes from their precursors in suspension cultures. Highly purified CD34⁺ cells were infected with 95(2) or with Towne/lox2 at MOI of 100 PFU/cell, or were mock-infected and grown in suspension cultures for 4 weeks. The cultures were supplemented with 50 ng/mL SCF, 50 ng/mL IL-3, 50 ng/mL GM-CSF, and 50 ng/mL M-CSF and monitored for a number of viable cells for 4 weeks using trypan-blue exclusion test.
