Colony formation of sorted bone marrow cells. Fractionated bone marrow cells were cultured in methylcellulose medium containing the following factors: (A) IL-3 + SCF + Epo; (B) IL-3 + SCF + Epo (FULL), IL-3 + Epo [SCF(−)], or IL-3 + SCF [Epo(−)]. Five thousand cells of each fraction (HTK−c-Kit+ and HTK+c-Kit+) were plated. The numbers of colonies were counted on days 7 and 14. Bars show the mean of duplicate culture dishes.
