Thrombocytosis patients include those who presented with symptomatic thrombosis (▴), those studied more than 24 hours before developing thrombosis (▿), and those who remained asymptomatic (•), as well as normal controls (•) with normal platelet counts. Thrombocytosis patients are further subdivided into those with (1) transient thrombocytosis; (2) chronic secondary thrombocytosis; and (3) chronic primary (MPD-associated) thrombocytosis.
