Binding of galectin-3 to resting and in vitro primed neutrophils. In vitro–primed cells (see Materials and Methods) and resting peripheral blood cells (10⁶) were paraformaldehyde fixed, incubated with FITC-labeled galectin-3, and analyzed by flow cytometry. Panel (a) shows a representative histogram while panel (b) depicts the relative amounts of bound galectin-3, calculated from the mean fluorescence intensity of each cell population and expressed in percent of the value obtained with control cells (□).
