When a ligand binds a receptor, a conformational change in the receptor allows 2 JAK2 proteins to phosphorylate each other and activate phosphorylation events that allow STAT proteins to form dimers. These dimers then translocate to the nucleus and activate specific transcription of specific genes, such as Bcl-xL, related to survival and proliferation. miR-135a plays a role in this pathway by regulating the translation of JAK2 protein.
