Activation of glutamate uptake by alphaxalone and inhibition by cis-ACBD. Effect of the glutamate transport inhibitor cis-ACBD (100μM) on the uptake of L-[³H]-glutamate into uninfected human erythrocytes (black bars) treated with either 1mM arsenite (gray bars) or 3μM alphaxalone (white bars). Uptake was measured at 37°C for a period of 10 minutes. The data are averaged from 3 separate experiments performed on different days and are shown ± SEM.
