Activation of the HIV-1 LTR in Jurkat T cells by neutrophils and PMA. The reaction mixture contained 2 × 10⁶ Jurkat LTR_luc and, where indicated, 100 ng/mL PMA and either normal or CGD neutrophils at the concentrations indicated, in RPMI at a final volume of 2.0 mL. The effect of PMA alone is indicated by the (○) (or ▵) at zero neutrophils/mL. The results with normal neutrophils are the mean ± SEM of 4 to 11 values and the results with CGD neutrophils are the mean ± SEM of 2 to 4 values. The asterisk indicates a significant difference from PMA alone (P< .05).
