The SMP1 gene has 7 exons, and the positions and approximate sizes of the introns are shown. The start of the published cDNA (GenBank accession number AF081282) is separated by 15 nt from the downstream Rhesus box. Exon 1 contains only a 5′ untranslated sequence, and the SMP1 start codon is located in exon 2. Exon 7 contains 16 codons and 1656-bp 3′ untranslated sequences and is contiguous with the 3′ untranslated sequence ofRHCE exon 10.
