Mapping the 5′ end of the human ankyrin-1 cDNA.
RNase mapping was carried out using an ankyrin-1 riboprobe (upper right). This probe contains sequences corresponding to exon 1 of the ankyrin-1 gene, 5′flanking DNA, and part of intron 1. Ten micrograms of K562, HEL, human fetal liver, HL60 total RNA, or tRNA were used as template. Six transcription initiation sites, noted by the lines (left) and annotated by an arrow above the corresponding sequences (lower right), were identified. The 5′ end of the previously reported sequence obtained from cDNA cloning is denoted by the asterisk.
