Repopulation kinetics of 38⁺34^loand 38⁻34^lo cells.

BMT was performed as follows: 100 Ly5.1 donor cells (either 38⁺34^lo [●]or 38⁻34^lo [■] cells) and 4 × 10⁵ Ly5.2 whole BM competitor cells were transplanted into Ly5.2 lethally irradiated recipient mice. Peripheral blood was examined periodically. The data for CD34^lo cells, together with the data for CD34⁻ cells, suggest that only CD38⁺ cells can provide long-term reconstitution efficiently. Data are from 2 independent experiments using 6 to 8 mice per group in each experiment; the values presented are means ± SE.
