Representative results of stromal cell analysis by PCR-based HUMARA analysis.

Marrow stromal cells from 3 male patients (case nos. 2, 4, and 5) allografted into female donors were generated in vitro, extensively depleted of monocyte-macrophages, and analyzed by PCR for the presence of donor-derived mesenchymal cells. In case nos. 2 and 5, 2 HUMARA alleles were detected by PCR amplification, thus demonstrating the partial female origin of stromal cells, whereas in case no. 4 only one allele was detected, thus demonstrating the host origin of stromal cells.
