Globin chain mRNA levels and globin chain synthesis in treated β thalassemic mice.

Blood samples were taken from 9 C57Bl/6^Hbbth mice (M1-9) 1 week before treatment (−1), then 4 weeks (4) and 11 weeks (11) after naked DNA electrotransfer into muscles. Hematocrits (A) are shown as well as serum Epo concentration measured by ELISA (B). Copy numbers of α-globin (C) and βmin-globin (D) mRNA and βmin/α-globin mRNA copy number ratios (E) were determined by quantitative real-time PCR. Globin chain synthesis levels were measured by metabolic labeling and βmin/α-globin chain synthesis ratios are shown (F).
