Globin-chain composition in mouse RBCs.

(A) Hemolysates were prepared from the peripheral blood of β^6I/β^6I mice, β^w/β^6I mice, or β^WT/β^WT mice. Globin chains from fresh hemolysates were resolved on TAU-polyacrylamide gels and visualized with Coomassie blue. Shown is a representative gel from 4 that displayed virtually identical protein profiles. Positions of β^WT, β^6I, β^min, and α globin chains are indicated. (B) The β^WT, β^6I, and β^min chains were quantitated by densitometry. An average was calculated from duplicates run on each gel and expressed as a percentage of wild-type level. Shown are the means, along with standard deviations, from 4 different gels.
