CD4⁺ T-cell numbers (cube root transformed) of all time points of the 11 HIV-1–infected individuals are shown, determined as described in “Patients, materials, and methods,” against (A) total number of functional EBV-specific CD8⁺ T cells per 10⁶ T cells (cube root transformed), determined by IFN-γ Elispot assay as described in “Patients, materials, and methods,” and (B) the cumulative percentage EBV-tetramer⁺CD8⁺ T cells (cube root transformed), assessed by staining PBMCs with HLA–EBV-peptide tetrameric complexes as described in “Patients, materials, and methods.” (●) indicates AIDS-NHL; (○), LTA; and (▾), AIDS-OI.
