Effect of inducing erythroid differentiation in Friend 707 cells on⁵⁹Fe uptake and ⁵⁹Fe incorporation into heme.

Cells were incubated with DMSO for 24 hours (A) or 96 hours (B). Cells were incubated in the presence and absence of 1.5% DMSO for 24 hours or 96 hours at 37°C. After this incubation the cells were then labeled with ⁵⁹Fe-transferrin (10 μM) for incubations of 1 to 120 minutes at 37°C. The uptake of cellular ⁵⁹Fe and its incorporation into heme were measured using standard techniques (see “Materials and methods” for details). The results are means of duplicate determinations in a typical experiment from 3 experiments performed.
