A model of AMN and cubilin assembly in the biosynthetic pathway and recycling in the endocytic apparatus of polarized epithelial cells. The depicted model is consistent with data presented here and current paradigms of endocytic receptor expression. This depiction does not show that AMN is sensitive to cleavage close to the transmembrane segment leading to partial shedding of cubilin/AMN to the extracellular fluid.
