Lin-bi HSCs are part of the normal HSC compartment. Eleven individual hosts (a-k) received a graft of 106 BMCs from a host that 8 months earlier had received a graft of 105 BMCs. This donor mouse is designated “Parent” and shows the balanced lineage composition reproducibly found after a multiclonal graft.10 Transplantation increases the number of radioprotecting cells but reduces the repopulation capacity of BMCs by approximately 8-fold.39 Therefore, each secondary host received on average 1.2 HSCs.
