Serum ferritin levels are maximal values observed in normal individuals and families with HHCS. A significant relationship was found between ferritin levels and dissociation constants: the higher the impairment in IRE-IRP1 binding affinity, the higher the serum ferritin.75 The relationship between degree of hyperferritinemia and severity of cataract75 is illustrated schematically for the reader's convenience.
