Abstract
The thymus appears to be a principal source of the small lymphocyte population of blood, spleen and lymph nodes. It may, in addition, produce hormonal factors affecting lymphocyte production. It plays a major role, early in life and perhaps later as well, in maintaining the immunologic integrity of the organism.
