Abstract
A narrative concerning mass screening of a large population at risk for sickle hemolobin, glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase deficiency, anemia, and lead poisoning is presented. At the time of writing, more than one-tenth of a black community totaling over 104,000 individuals have been tested. The manner of community education and organization, laboratory methodology, results obtained, means of reporting, and follow-up procedures are detailed.
