To the Editor:
It has come to our attention that samples of the DAMI cell line originally deposited by us in the American Type Culture Collection (ATCC) and subsequently distributed to members of the scientific community may share some unique genetic markers with the HEL cell line. We do not know the significance of this finding nor do we know how the changes arose and are working closely with the ATCC to resolve the problem. We remain convinced that the original DAMI line reported in Blood 72:1968, 1988 had unique cytogenetic and phenotypic features. We wish only to alert our colleagues that a change may have occurred in what we identified as the DAMI line since submission of the original manuscript. Thus, investigators should use caution when interpreting any unique results obtained with the DAMI line.
