Abstract
A method is described for detection of erythrocyte glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase deficiency, based upon the reduction of the tetrazolium dye, MTT, by reduced triphosphopyridine nucleotide. The method is highly reliable and correlates well with established methods of enzyme assay. The test is sufficiently simple to perform that it may be done in any routine clinical laboratory or physician’s office. The reagents may be prepared in mailable, stable form at minimal expense.
