Abstract
The appearance of reticulocytopenia and of vacuolated marrow blast cells has been correlated with elevated plasma levels and prolonged marrow exposure to free chloramphenicol. It is suggested that chloramphenicol may have produced bone marrow suppression in these patients in part by acting as an antimetabolic agent.
