Abstract
Leukocytes and platelets labeled by the atabrine fluorescent technic have been demonstrated in the maternal circulation from ½ to 4 hours following intraperitoneal transfusion of the fetus in utero. The peak concentration of labeled cells was observed 2 hours after transfusion. The fetomaternal transfer of cells has been demonstrated in cases of erythroblastosis fetalis. It is not known whether this occurs in normal fetuses and the mechanism is not understood.
