Abstract
Erythrocyte glutamic oxalacetic transaminase (EGOT), glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase (G-6-PD), and hexokinase were found to be increased in patients with polycythemia vera. This suggests the presence of a population of erythrocytes younger than normal in these patients. The pathogenesis of this phenomonon is unclear but several possible mechanisms are suggested.
