Administration of azathioprine causes suppression of lupus nephritis in NZB x NZW F1 hybrids. Malignant lymphoid neoplasms, particularly affecting the thymus, occurred in 7 out of the 12 mice treated. Similar neoplasms developed in 6 out of 8 young NZB mice treated with azathioprine. No such tumors occurred in the control animals.
