Abstract
Blood platelets showed an age dependent accumulation of lipid peroxides. Lipid peroxidation stimulated by heavy metal also increased with platelet age and rose at a much faster rate than the spontaneous peroxide formation. This suggests the loss of a cellular defense mechanism against lipid peroxidation in aging blood platelets.
