Abstract
Direct morphologic evidence has been presented for a bi-directional flow of ferritin in guinea pig erythroblasts and reticulocytes both in vitro and in vivo. Ferritin intake by means of micropinocytotic vesicles is followed by their confluence and rupture of the large vesicles to the outside within 60 minutes. The origin of ferritin on the red cell surface prior to its uptake by the micropinocytosis (rhopheocytosis) is yet to be determined.
