Abstract
Arvin (a fraction of the venom of the Malayan pit viper Ancistrodon rhodostoma) induces a transitory state of unclottability, during which the fibrinogen cannot be measured by thrombin-dependent methods. However, by immunoelectrophoresis, two main derivatives can be detected. One of these fractions polymerizes upon increasing the ionic strength of the milieu, depicting then a periodicity of 178 A.
