“How I treat”: a new style of clinical review article

With this issue of the Journal we introduce a new style of clinical review article, the “How I treat” series. The first in this series is “How I treat TTP,” penned by James George. This type of manuscript is not designed to replace our more typical review papers, but rather to complement them. The “How I treat” series will focus on a single disease, or on one or more distinct aspects of a single hematologic disorder, offering diagnostic and therapeutic advice based on longstanding clinical experience. Articles will be authored by leading experts in the chosen field, and provide a modicum of references that serve primarily to highlight controversial areas of clinical care, or to allow the reader to gain greater insights into the physiology or pathology forming the basis for clinical decision making. Although peer-reviewed by members of our Editorial Board, the “How I treat” series of papers will often reflect the views of the author, who will be encouraged to call attention to opinion over evidence-based facts. Blood will continue to publish state-of-the-art, highly referenced, evidence-based reviews on basic and translational physiology and pathology of normal and neoplastic hematology. The Editors hope that the readership ofBlood will enjoy these succinct papers designed to provide personal perspectives on challenging clinical problems in our discipline.
