The image is an expanded megakaryocyte colony in coculture with isolated bone marrow fibroblastic reticular cell–like cells (BM FRC-like cells). BM FRC-like cells are BM arteriolar stromal cells that express podoplanin, a ligand of C-type lectin-like receptor 2 (CLEC-2) on megakaryocytes, and they accelerate megakaryocyte clonal expansion and promote proplatelet formation via CLEC-2/podoplanin interactions. Megakaryocyte lineage cells (red) and BM FRC-like cells (green) are detected as CD41+ and podoplanin+ cells, respectively. See the article by Tamura et al on page 1701.
