Acute myelogenous leukemia is organized as an aberrant developmental hierarchy maintained by leukemia stem cells. Ring1A and Ring1B repress expression of Gli-similar 2 (GLIS2) to maintain leukemia stem cells. The image shows leukemia cells stained with anti-GLIS2 (red) after deletion of Ring1A and Ring1B and cell nuclei stained with 4′,6-diamidino-2-phenylindole (blue).
