Fibrin formation under shear stress in a microfluidic model of heparin-induced thrombocytopenia, demonstrating its prothrombotic nature. The image is a confocal micrograph with platelet aggregates visualized in green, fibrin fibers in purple, and white blood cells in cyan. The attachment points of fibrin to platelets are white because of superposition of purple and green colors. There is an extensive fibrin network radiating from the platelet aggregates typically aligned along the direction of flow. See the article by Tutwiler et al on page 464.
