    The confocal microscopy image shows a mouse dendritic cell labeled for CD45.1 (in red) on the cell surface, with an intracellular cargo of green fluorescent protein (in green), the latter acquired following in vitro incubation with “donor” CD45.2 congenic dendritic cells genetically engineered to release eGFP-labeled membrane nanovesicles termed exosomes. Dendritic cells use endogenously released exosomes as a mechanism of intercellular communication and transfer of functional miRNAs. See the article by Montecalvo et al on page 756.
