Cover Image![issue cover]() Activated protein C (APC) has antithrombotic and cell signaling activities. Mutation of 3 Lys residues to Ala (3K3A-APC) reduces by >90% APC's anticoagulant activity without affecting cell signaling actions. Thus, 3K3A-APC is signaling-selective and is in clinical trials for ischemic stroke. See the review series on nontraditional roles for the hemostatic system in the vessel wall.
