Wright-Giemsa stained bone marrow aspirate smear of acute promyelocytic leukemia (APL) demonstrating numerous myeloblasts and promyelocytes containing abundant cytoplasmic granules and Auer rods. Advances in survival of APL in South/Central America made possible by the development of the International Consortium on APL (IC-APL), a network for sharing data, information, and expertise. Median survival increased to a level similar to that seen in the US and Western Europe. Image courtesy of Michael W. Beaty, MD, Department of Pathology, Wake Forest School of Medicine.
